Jammu 27th of April, 2019
11th Natrang Theatre Festival, a festival of 4 plays opened here today at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu with the presentation of a new Hindi play ‘Seva Sadan’ based on a story written by Munshi Premchand which was adapted by Rakesh Kumar Gupta, IAS and directed by Neeraj Kant. Natrang is organising a Theatre Festival of four plays every month since last twelve months in commemoration with the celebrations of 35 glorious years of Natrang. In his welcome address, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang has already created a record in the country by showcasing 40 major different plays by the same group in a period of eleven months. He complimented all actors, directors and technicians of Natrang associated with the holding of such historic Natrang Theatre Festivals. Natrang has not only provided the audience a chance to witness the different plays of highly social & artistic relevance but also has added to their creative and intellectual repository by staging the literary works of the most celebrated writers of the world.
The play starts with a very common social scene: an honest police officer finds himself unable to marry off his elder daughter, Suman, to a good family because of hefty dowry demands and his financial limitations. So, he tries corruptive ways to obtain enough money so as to play his responsibilities towards his two daughters, instead he lands up behind the bars. This paradigm was highlighted in the play that as it is almost certain in our society that corrupt people are seldom punished, it is most probable that honest people are caught when they tread on the corrupt ways.
The artists who performed in the play included Manoj Kumar Lalotra, Sushant Singh Charak, Sumit Raina, Vrinda Sharma, Aarti Devi, Akshita Khajuria, Chirag Anand, Udit Sagar, Chahat Katyal, Kuldeep Angral, Gopi Sharma, Manandeep Singh, Aastha Sharma and Simran Singh. The lights of the play were designed and executed by Neeraj Kant and the music was scored by Manoj Kumar Lalotra. The presentations were done by Meenakshi Bhagat and the show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
On the second day of Natrang Theatre Festival i.e, 28th April, 2019, Hindi play ‘Bishop’s Candle Sticks’ will be presented under the direction of Neeraj Kant at 5 pm at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu.
