2nd batch of Gardeners complete one year Orientation Program at MFPN Chakroi

One year Orientation Program for the 2nd batch of the gardeners/ technicians of the department of Horticulture of Jammu Division concluded today at Mega Fruit Plant Nursery, Chakroi. In this context, a valedictory function was organised in the Mega Nursery. Director Horticulture Jammu C. L Sharma was the chief guest. The Director Horticulture gave away certificates/ trophies to the trainees for successfully completing one year Orientation Programme. Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu Ashwani Sharma, I/c MFPN Chakroi Vijay Angurana, Divisional Training Officer Pawan Thakur, Assistant Director Satish Kumar and other officers of the department were also present.
The trainees were sensitized on Standard Operating Procedures, protocol of raising nurseries in open and protected structures; training/ pruning of mother plants, basin preparation, different methods of irrigation, hoe-weeding, etc.
Later, the Director Horticulture Jammu had one to one interaction with all the trainees coming from all the districts of Jammu division. The trainees also shared their experiences about the training programme with the chair and thanked the department for equipping them technically which will help them in implementing the schemes in field as well as in running departmental nurseries.
The department of Horticulture is also establishing Virus Indexing, Tissue Culture and Bio-control laboratories under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) at Mega Fruit Plant Nursery Chakroi.
For running these laboratories, 20 trainees were also imparted training at SKUAST-J. The Director also felicitated the trainees of Tissue Culture and Virus Indexing laboratories and directed I/c Mega Fruit Plant Nursery to devise a mechanism for production of Strawberry runners under tissue culture techniques.
The Director also interacted with the trainees of the new batch 2024-25 comprising gardeners/technicians from all the districts of Jammu division and stressed upon them to work with zeal to come up with Horticulture expertise in all relevant areas of scientific production of planting material for High Density plantation.
Further, the trainees were also sensitized about HADP schemes and importance of its various components for the well being of the farming community.
