Three days District Games for disabled at Jammu with the sole motive to explore their hidden talent though the medium of sports under Khelo India concluded today. In the valedictory function the Chief Guest was Deputy Inspector General of Police Shri M.C.Pawar and presided over by Dr Anjali Sharma, Director All India Radio, Jammu Guest of Honour Padamshree Dr S.P.Verma, Dr D.R.Kapoor, KAS (Retd) Chairman Sahyog India, G.R.Bhagat Former Director Social Welfare & Deputy Commissioner (Retd.) and Maj Nitesh Sharma, Secretary ASHA Army School, Jammu Cantt.
About 299 persons with disabilities participated in 3 days District Games and enjoyed the various sports events as football, dribbling, shooting, throw ball, badminton, softball skills, bocce, 200mt,100mt, 50mt.race,wheel chair race, throw shot-put, zigzag, All the parents and guardians of persons with disabilities felt great relief during the event when they witnessed the caliber of their family members while playing in the games. Ashwani Jojra, President SOB (Special Olympics Bharat) presented welcome address. In his welcome and keynote address Mr Jojra explained aims and objects of KHELO INDIA MISSION to strengthen the persons with disabilities through the medium of sports by exploring their hidden talent to compete with the society to live with dignity and honour.
The Chief Guest Mr DIG lauded the role of Special Olympics Bharat for exploring the hidden talent of persons with disabilities who are absolutely unattended and deprived of all amenities and facilities due to ignorance and poverty as well as helplessness. As it is the only platform where the policies and mission of Govt can be propagated. I am highly delighted to see when the winners are getting medal & certificates, the Chief Guest said. Prominent who were present are Thakur Kashmir Singh Manhas, Raj Kumar Sharma, Area Director, S.Prithpal Singh, Sport Director SOB, Jatin Chanjotra. Programme Manager SOB, Didi Raj Bharati-Vetern Gandhian K.K.Verma, President J&K Handicapped Association, Roshan Bhan, President Association for Deaf, Vikram Gujral, Darshan Kapoor, Dr Meenakshi Vice Principal Asha Army School, Mr Johar the Law Officer Youth Services and sports.
Director General, Youth Services and Sports Sheik Fayyaz Ahmad dispatched his good wishes and extended all support to make this event grand success. Under his kind directions the entire sports deptt. assisted Khelo India Programme under guidance of Chanchal Kour District Youth Services Sports Officer, Jammu.
Cultural Programme also entertained the participants and were served with delicious meals and snacks. Vote of thanks was presented by Raj Kumar Sharma, Area Director, SOB. Oath of SOB also administered by the special children and programme concluded with musical colorful dance of all special athletes.
All the parents, guardians and care takers of special athletes were enthralled while witnessing the sports events, they took pledge to be part of the Khelo India programme and expressed their enthusiasm to send their family members i.e Person with disabilities to every such programme when and was organized as this 3 days event has given new hopes and aspiration to us and our athletes.
