A 48-year-old woman died while two of her daughters and the driver sustained injuries after a speedingcar rammed into couple of vehicles in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Wednesday afternoon. Police said that the offending vehicle was driven by a 20-year-old youth who has been arrested.
The deceased has been identified as, Rajeshwari Yadav (48) while her daughters Deepti Yadav (26), Jyotsana Yadav (24) and the driver of the cab Ishwar Singh (55) sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Police said that the accused Shrey Gupta (20) also sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital after first aid while three other occupants of his car are absconding.
According to a senior police official, on Wednesday at about 3.54 PM, Shrey Gupta a resident of DRDO Complex Timarpur, along with his friends Daniel and two unknown persons were going in his car from Civil Line side to IP College side.
“When Shrey took a sharp turn in a rash and negligent way on road opposite to Vidhan sabha Metro station, he hit two cabs who were stranded there. Rajeshwari who was occupant of the cab succumbed while the driver Ishwar Singh had fracture in the leg and was shifted to Trauma Centre,” said the police official adding that the driver of another cab Sonu (29) escaped unhurt.
“A case is being registered on the statement of victim Sonu and investigation has been launched,” said a police official.
