The Chenab Book Mela & Literary Festival 2024, organized by District Administration Doda in collaboration with the Municipal Council, Ehsaas Charitable Trust and the Chenab Valley AMU Alumni Association commenced here today in Community Hall.
The 5-day cultural and literary celebration promises to offer a platform for cultural enrichment, community engagement, and literary inspiration, reflecting the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the Chenab Valley.
The festival was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, in presence of SSP Mohammad Aslam.
Other Government functionaries, including Guest of Honour, SP Jail Bhaderwah Hamidullah Naik, besides a large number of civil society members were among the attendees. After the inauguration, the DC and SSP inspected book stalls set up at the venue. A pledge ceremony ensued, emphasizing the commitment of the organizers and participants towards promoting literacy and education in the region.
In his inaugural address, Deputy Commissioner Ha rvinder Singh lauded the organizers for the noble initiative of promoting literary activities and book reading. He urged the media to promote the event to attract greater participation from students from across the district.
Educationist Abdul Ha feez, civil society members Shokat Ali Mughal, Hafizullah Khurwani, college faculty members, lecturers, literary enthusiasts and a large number of students from across the district were also part of the event.
The 5 day event would feature a vibrant array of activities, including book stalls, food stalls, extempore sessions, symposiums, writer interactions, cultural programs, and Mushaira (poetic gatherings). The festival will also feature Sufiyana Shaam (traditional Sufi music evening), open mic events, Ba’it Baazi (poetic competitions), and literary discussions.
Panel Discussion on Knowledge and Career, a special panel discussion on the theme “Book, Knowledge, & Career” will be held, featuring Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, Assistant Professor Dr. Jamsheed Ahmad, Educationist Abdul Hafeez, Senior Lecturer Musarat Jahan, and Assistant Professor Dr. Akhtar Sohail.
