5-day national folk dance festival to start from Dec 26 in Jammu

North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) and Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Jammu is jointly organizing ‘National Folk Dance Festival’ from December 26-28. The festival is of five days and for three days it will be organised at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. Artists from from Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab ,Assam, Tripura ,Maharashtra, Telengana and Haryana, will participate in it. Addressing a press conference, Director North Zone Cultural Centre, Patalia, Prof. Saubaghya Vardhan said, “This festival is being organized in Jammu.
In order to further this tradition, programmes of folk dance, folk music, folk instruments and folk theatre will be organized”.
Prof. Saubhagya said that festival will showcase the folk dances of different parts of India. “The festival is part of our efforts to bring together the tribal artists from different regions of country. Encourage them and ensure that arts forms are showcased to the people. It’s a way to preserve the great cultural traditions of India”.
He said that programmes will be organised in Jammu, Reasi and Samba. “The main programme will be organised at Abhinav Theatre, the cultural centre in heart of Jammu city-winter capital of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said adequate measures have been taken in view of Covid 19 pandemic and people who will be visiting to watch the programme should follow the necessary guidelines.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir has rich tribal traditions and artists need a platform to showcase their talent.
“Such festivals are an important aspect to make people of the country aware about rich tribal traditions of india and help the tribal artists to get necessary exposure”.
He thanked the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy for the support extended for organising the festival.
“We are thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir UT government especially Cultural academy for the supporting our initiative. We are hoping that people will also support our effort and encourage artists”.
