LMD Udhampur booked 24 traders, imposes Rs 76100.00 as penalty

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER-28:-Intensifying its drive to protect the Consumers from exploitation by the unscrupulous traders the officers of Legal Metrology Department headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Udhampur, Ajay Kumar conducted extensive checking of various business establishment at Dhar Road, Battal Ballian, Kawa, Dhramthal, Jhonu, Rathain, Sail, Pongyal, , Mansar, Majalta, Chenani, Pattangarh, Kasal Morh, Udhampur  and adjoining  areas during the current month.

 During inspection of more than 200 traders of different business establishments were thoroughly inspected. Among others traders, the traders dealing with Provisional stores, Karyana shops, LPG Gas Agencies, General Stores, Sweet shops, Feed Store, Meat Shops, Bakery Shops, Scrap Dealer, Hardware store, Welding Shops, Bartan Store Auto Rickshaws were also inspected for their Compliance with regards to various provisions of J&K Standard of weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and   packages Commodities rules.

In all 24 challans dealing with different trades were booked for violations of various provisions of J&K Weights & Measures Enforcement Act 2011(amended), Packages Commodities Rules 2011 and other prevailing Legal Metrology Laws and Rules. On the request and assurance of traders not to repeat the same discrepancies in future 26 challans of the booked traders were compounded and penalty of Rs 76100.00 was imposed on the unscrupulous traders

Besides this, the Department directed all the traders to use only verified and authenticated Weights and Measures, Weighing and Measuring Instruments for delivering the various commodities to the Consumers and ensure the mandatory declarations of MRP, PKD, Net Contents, complete address and Customer care Number on the Commodities to be sold in package Form.

The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed to the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities especially during the coming festival season.
