Around 50 lakh Central government employees have been demanding salary hike beyond 7th CPC or 7th Pay Commission recommendations for years. Speculations are rife that the Modi-led government is all set to make an announcement on the pay hike beyond recommendations of 7th CPC, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

The Central and state government employees are demanding a hike in the fitment factor from 2.57 times to 3.68 times beyond the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
The 7th Pay Commission had recommended a 14.27 per cent hike in basic pay, raising minimum pay from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000 month, which was accepted by the government in June 2016. Since then, central government employees have been asking to raise minimum pay to Rs 26,000 and fitment factor 3.68 times from 2.57 times.
