JAMMU, January 15:
Additional Director General of Police, Traffic, T Namgial today declared open the two-day 26th Men Free Style, Greco Roman and 12th Women J&K UT Wrestling Championship, organised by the Wrestling Association of J&K, at Police Sports Complex, Gulshan Grounds, here today.
Earlier, DGP J&K Police, Dilbag Singh was to inaugurate the event but due to his pre-occupation, he could not make it to the event. In the closing of the championship, Advisor to the LG, Farooq Khan has consented to be the chief guest.
The ADGP Traffic was welcomed and received by president of the Association, SSP Dushyant Sharma in the presence of president J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), Dr Ashutosh Sharma and SSP Ravi Kant.
Among other distinguished guests were Rajan Sharma (general secretary, J&K Boxing Association), Sharat Chander Singh (general secretary, J&K Athletics Association) and treasurer of the Wrestling Association of J&K, Raju Sharma.
Today’s bouts officiated by the technical penal including Om Parkash (J&K), Jai Bharat (University of Jammu), Krishan Singh (JKP), Dheeraj Sharma (DYSS), Ravinder Kumar, Sahil Sharma, Shan Ul Bashir, Prem Singh and Ajay Bharti.
Earlier, during the day-long competition preliminary rounds of the bouts took place. However, in couple of weight groups, wrestlers have reached semifinals and final stages.
In total, 140 participants are contesting for the top honours in 10 different weight categories of Greco Roman and Free Style in men group. In women section, 15 entries have been received by the technical committee.
Meanwhile, in 92 kg weight category, Abdul Rashid of Jammu and Nadeem Ahmed of Doda qualified for the final. Semifinals: Abdul Rashid bt Abhishek Manhas (Jammu); Nadeem Ahmed bt Sahil Sharma (Reasi). Similarly, in 86 kg weight group, Rakesh Kumar of JKP and Hamam Hussain of JKP have reached the final. Semifinals: Rakesh bt Bag Hussain of Kathua; Hamam Hussain bt Zulfikar of Jammu.
The Results: Free Style: 70 kg: Arif Khan (JKP), Muddasir Zahir (Doda), Dilwaj Khan (Kathua), Muneer Hussain (Jammu) reach semifinals. 65 kg: Sunny Sharma (JKP), Iqbal Mohd (Jammu), Sachin Sharma (Jammu) and Deepak Kumar (Jammu) qualified for semifinals.
