Amitabh Mattoo delivers prestigious H.L. Gupta Memorial Lecture

Prof. AmitabMattoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir delivered the H.L. Gupta Memorial Lecture for the year 2018 on the topic “The Challenge of Building a Knowledge Society in Jammu and Kashmir” at Model Institute of Education and Research today. Dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr. Arun K Gupta Chairperson MIER, Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Adit Gupta Director and Dr. N.R Sharma Dean Academics along with distinguished Educationists, Principals of different colleges, Members of the Governing Body and civil society and faculty and students of MIER College of Education.
The function commenced with floral homage to late Shri H.L. Gupta, the founder of MIER Group of Institutions by the dignitaries. Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairperson MIER extended a hearty welcome to the distinguished speaker and eminent guests on the occasion. He expressed his gratitude to all the eminent dignitaries present for sparing their valuable time and gracing the occasion. Dr. Gupta hoped that the lecture would be a befitting tribute to the great educationist, Shri H.L. Gupta. He said thatthe knowledge has always been a factor of production, and a driver of economic and social development and the emergence of the knowledge society is bringing about a fundamental reshaping of the global economy.
The idea of ‘knowledge society’ has certainly caught the attention of the urban elite but the masses are still struggling for their basic needs of food, shelter, drinking water, toilets, electricity and healthcare even after six decades of independence and in spite of a plethora of schemes for welfare, well-being and empowerment.
A book titled “Implementing Inclusion in Schools” was also released on this occasion. The book has been edited by Dr. Arun K Gupta, Dr. Renu Gupta and Dr. Bharti Tandon. An attempt has been made in the book to connect theoretical framework with practicing strategies and global trends in inclusive education in addition to highlighting challenges and issues.
The book brings together contribution from eminent scholars not only from India but also from U.S. and Brazil. This book is a valuable resource for professionals and practitioners in the field of Special Education.
Prof. N.R. Sharma, Dean Academics MIER College, formally thanked the distinguished speaker, the chief guest and the eminent personalities present on the occasion and said that in order to effectively implement reforms in creating knowledge society; we need to incorporate innovative practices, community-based activities and out-of-box thinking.Dr. Annie Koul, Convener IQAC MIER ably conducted the program.
