Amritsar attack a clear case of terrorism, says Amarinder Singh

Calling the Amritsar attack a “clear case of terrorism”, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Monday said the investigation is going on. Addressing a press conference after visiting the attack site , Singh said that they have substantial leads about the attack which the police are following up. He added that he is hopeful that the culprits would be soon caught. The CM also visited the Guru Nanak Hospital in Amritsar to meet the injured people. Three people were killed and 20 others got injured after a blast occurred when few hundred people were gathered in a religious congregation at the Nirankari Bhawanin Rajasansi village of Amritsar. The CM had earlier announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects. A three-member team of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) headed by an inspector general visited the spot for a second time after their initial inspection of the area on Sunday. Earlier, home minister Rajnath Singh also reviewed security situation in the country, particularly in Punjab after the attack. Senior officials of the home ministry and security agencies briefed the home minister on the explosion at a religious gathering near Amritsar on Sunday, an incident which police are treating as a “terrorist act”. The home minister directed the officials to provide all assistance to the Punjab government in their investigation to nab the perpetrators of the crime, a home ministry official said.
The Punjab Police has formed several teams to investigate the grenade attack. CCTV footage of places near the blast was being scanned to know more about the two masked attackers.

On Sunday, Captain Amarinder Singh had also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and free treatment for those injured in the blast.
