Angelina Jolie has been known for her extensive work as an humanitarian, and the actress is headed to Peru this time, reports People.com. Jolie, over the years, has promoted various causes, from environmental issues to child, refugee and women’s rights. Currently the actress is in Peru to advocate for refugees from Venezuela, who fled their homes because of the devastating economic depression. The Emmy-winning actress shared in a statement, “I spent the last two days in Lima and at the border in Tumbes, where thousands of Venezuelans are entering on a daily basis. This region is facing one of the largest mass migrations in its history. The crisis is all the more shocking for being predictable and preventable (sic).”In her statement, Jolie describes the lives of the refugees and the drastic displacement that they have been going through. For example, a man who was a lawyer in Venezuela, is currently working in a T-shirt factory to send money home to his family. Jolie writes, “As in nearly every displacement crisis, the countries that have fewer resources are being asked to do the most. I want to thank the people of Peru for their generous and resilient response to this difficult situation (sic)”
