A delegation of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) led by its President Dr. Vikas Sharma met Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Jb. Abdul Gani Kohli Sahb at his residence today and submitted a memorandum regarding strengthening of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry of SKUAST-Jammu and sanction of additional faculty of Dairy Technology. President SKUAST-TAJ Dr. Vikas Sharma informed the Minister that Veterinary Sciences is an integral part of Agriculture and more so in the present context when Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir is emphasizing on the integrated farming system approach, which is vital for enhancing farmer’s income. Dr. Sharma further said that it is felt that existing Faculty of Veterinary Sciences rather be further strengthened and new faculty of Dairy Technology be established, the case for which is already lying with the State Govt. since, 2005
General Secretary of the association Dr. Vivak. M. Arya expressed that upgrading of the existing Veterinary faculty of SKUAST-J through increased capital infusion together with structural profiling and reenergizing the current human resource available and providing better operational facilities for focused R&D projects having State’s specificity, shall yield tangible results.
After giving a patient hearing to SKUAST-J teachers, the Hon’ble Minister said that for the overall development of SKUAST-Jammu and to cater to the time to time needs of the farming community of Jammu region, there is a need to strengthen the Veterinary Faculty of Farm varsity. Further, he assured full support to SKUAST-Jammu from present State Govt. and informed that the matter regarding sanction of new faculty of Dairy Technology will be taken with APD and Planning Department for its early settlement.
