Aravindh, Vaibhav among 4 lead with 6.5 pts

JAMMU, Dec 14:
Grandmasters, Aravindh Chithambaram, Vaibhav Suri, Sangupta Deep and International Master (IM), Stany maintained the joint lead of 6.5 points at the end of eighth round in the National Open Senior Chess Championship underway, here today.
As many as six players are following at the second spot with six points in respective accounts. They are GM Anurag Mhamal, GM Tejas Bakre, GM Abhijeet Gupta, GM Deepan Chakraborty, GM Vishnu Prasanna, GM Praveen Thipsay and IM Nitiin.
Pertinent to mention here that 162 players from 27 states and eight other special units of the country, including Air India, Railways, Services and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (SPPB) ar participating in this 13 round competition. The participants included 50 titled players.
Since all the states are allowed to field a four-member team, J&K had an exception with eight participants. While State top seed, Soham Kamotra has earned 4.5 points out of seven rounds while another promising player, Sumit Grover and Ajit Singh have four points each in their accounts.
Other participants from J&K are Khalid Amin, SP Sharma, Ashutosh Jamwal, Surinder and Ankush Bhardwaj.
Earlier, during the day, special guest, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba interacted with the participants before the start of round eight.
