Mainpuri,apr 19:
It was a historic day for Uttar Pradesh politics. Burying personal and political enmity Samajwadi party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP national president Mayawati shared a dais after a quarter of a century. At a mammoth joint rally of the SP-BSP-RLD mahatbandhan at Mainpuri’s Christian College Maidan, a visibly moved Mulayam profusely thanked Mayawati for coming to Mainpuri in his support, said that he will never forget her kind gesture and would remain forever grateful. He asked the massive crowds to welcome Mayawati with loud clapping and always remember to give her the respect that she deserved. Mulayam said that Mayawati had always come to his support when needed.Giving an indication that this would be his last election, Mulayam asked the crowds if they would make him win his last election with the highest margin.Appealing to the crowds to ensure the victory of Mulayam Singh Yadav the mahagatbandhan candidate from Mainpuri with a record-breaking margin, Mayawati once again explained why she decided to put the incident of June 2, 1995, behind her.“The country is passing through such a difficult period that I decided to set aside the past incident of June 2, 1995, in the larger interest of the nation,” said Mayawati. She said that Mulayam Singh was a not a fake backward like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Mulayam Singh Yadav is a born backward and is considered the genuine leader of the backward,” she said. She said that this election was to distinguish between the real and the fake.Later, Akhilesh Yadav described the occasion as historic and asked the people to ensure Mulayam Singh Yadav’s victory as one of the biggest in the country. It may be recalled that the two leaders never saw eye to eye after the infamous June 2, 1995, guest house incident.During this, MLAs close to Mulayam SinghYadav had attempted to physically attack Mayawati. It resulted in bringing down his SP-BSP alliance government and installing Mayawati as the UP chief minister for the first time. It turned allies into sworn enemies. It was only in 2017 that SP under Akhilesh Yadav negotiated an alliance with BSP winning three crucial by polls of Gorakhpur, Phulpur and Kairana in the process.
