Arjuna Awardee, Abhijeet Gupta (GM) among 26 top players lead with two points each out of as many rounds decided in the ongoing Rs 20 lakh prize money Senior National Chess Championship at Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, near here today.
These top ranked winners included GM Tejas Baker, GM Vaibhav Suri, IM VAV Rajesh, GM Arvind Chidambram , GM Sriram Jha, GM Deep Sengupta, Sammed Jaykumar Shete, IM Ratnakaram K and GM Deepan Chakraborty.
With two rounds decided, still 11 are yet to be played in the ongoing competition, organised by the All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA). This is also an Asian Zonal 3.7 event as India has got the separate Zone identity in Asia, revels one of the members of the organising committee.
From host J&K young Ashutosh Jamwal has made the state proud by opening his account against an International Master (IM), Rahul Shetty.
Host J&K has fielded its eight players and they are Soham Kamotra, Sumit Grover, Khalid Amin, Ajit Singh, Ankush Bhardwaj, SP Sharma, Ashutosh Jamwal and Surinder. “Youngest among the state participants is Ashutosh Jamwal , who has defeated International Master (IM) Rahul Shetty there by made the state proud,” said president of AJKCA, Atul Kumar Gupta.
The event is being played under FIDE laws of chess under Swiss system. International Arbiter, Dharmendra Kumar has been appointed as Chief Arbiter, who was supported by seven Deputy Arbiters.
“Such an event would certainly go a long way in encouraging the young talent in J&K,” added Gupta.
Today’s round two witnessed besides others by members of AJKCA including AR Wani, Ashiq Ahmed, Baldev Raj, Taranvir Singh, Kuljeet Jamwal, Farroq Ahmad, Mohd. Shafi, Khalid Amin, Raj Kumar and Vikas Nanda.
