To boost communal harmony and to inculcate sportsman spirit amongst the youth, an ‘Inter District Volleyball Tournament’ was conducted by the Indian Army from 10 to 14 January 2019. The event was part of the Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase their talent.
A total of six teams from Lam, Samote, Kalal, Gool, Bagga and Kalakote villages of Reasi, Rajouri and Ramban districts participated in the tournament on league cum knock-out basis. Kalal team was eventually adjudged the champion team after beating Kalakote team in a competitive and keenly contested match. The event witnessed an over whelming response both in terms of participation and spectators. Over 335 locals from a number of villages turned up to witness the final match.
Brigadier Rajiv Menon, SM, Commander Rashtriya Rifles Tain Sector, was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. Eminent personalities from the civil administration of District Rajouri, Shri Rajesh Sutar, Assistance Deputy Commissioner, Kalakote, Mr Mustaj Choudhary, SHO, Kalakote, Mr. BR Singh, Judge, Munsif Court Kalkote, Mr Naresh Kumar, Tehsildar, Kalakote, Mr. Prem Singh, Zonal Physical Education Officer, Kalakote, Mr. Padam Singh, Numberdar, Kalakote were also present to boost the morale of the enthusiastic participants.
Commander Rashtriya Rifles Tain Sector, felicitated the finalists, prizes were given to the winner, runners up and the best player at the end of the programme and he expressed his happiness over the enthusiasm shown by the teams.
He also complimented the locals for making this event a grand success and was convinced that such kind of events help in better coordination and synergy between the Army, Civil Administration and the AWAM.
