A tehsil level Football Tournament was organised by Army at Mendhar in Poonch from 17 to 18 Sep 2018 aimed for selection of Poonch district team to take part in the forthcoming Inter District Football Competition in October 2018 as part of sports promotion drive undertaken by Army to promote culture of sports and to infuse spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. A total of three teams from Poonch, Surankote and Mendhar participated in the tournament. The tournament was an impressive display of talent and sportsmanship by all teams. The finals were played on 18 Sep 18 wherein Poonch team defeated Surankote team by 08 goals. The players selected for the district team were excited at the prospects of playing at the inter District level tournament. The event was witnessed by a large number of spectators including school children, who cheered the players throughout the tournament. The winners and runners up of the tournament were felicitated. The players and the villagers were enthusiastic about the event and have turned up in large strength. On the occasion, Army applauded the youth for their efforts and encouraged them to make the best use of such a platform to display their sporting talent and also laid emphasis on the importance of games and sports for their overall development.
