At around 12:50, neighbouring Santry heard sound of a gunshot. Upon checking Rifleman Ranbir Singh was found dead with gunshot wound in his forehead.
Rifleman Ranbir Singh (28) was on guard duty at Hamirpur Nawan Military Garrison in Khour area of Akhnoor sector when he shot himself in the forehead yesterday, causing his instant death, a police official said.
The body of the deceased was handed over to Army authorities after completing all medical and legal formalities, he said. “Prima facie, it appears to be a suicide case but Khour police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC in the case”, the police further added.
