With an aim to bring in communal harmony on Gandhi Jayanti and to inculcate sportsmanship and healthy living amongst the youth of Reasi Dist, a Half Marathon was organised on 02 Oct 2018, at Sports Stadium, Reasi, by Indian Army. The event was part of the Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase the hidden talent of local youth.
A total of 120 youth participated in the Half Marathon displaying exceptional sportsmanship, enthusiasm and vigour. The event witnessed an over whelming response both in terms of participation and spectators who had lined up all along the 19.5 km stretch of the marathon.
Maj Gen Arvind Bhatia, General Officer Commanding Uniform Force was the chief guest for the closing ceremony.
Eminent personalities from the local administration of District Reasi and officers of Army were also present to boost the morale of the enthusiastic marathoners.
GOC Uniform Force felicitated and awarded prizes to the winners. The champion runner Narinder Singh was awarded a sparkling Trophy, cash prize and a certificate. The second position was bagged by Md Ashlam followed by the third position winners, Md Rafi and Mangal Singh. The first 20 runners were also awarded medals and certificates.
The General Officer expressed his happiness on the enthusiasm shown by all the runners. He also complimented the locals for making the event a grand success and was convinced that such, events help in honing the hidden talent of the state while enhancing the coordination and synergy between the Army, local administrations and the AWAM.
