The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress (JKPYC) on Wednesday staged a strong protest demonstration against journalist Arnab Goswami on his leaked whatsapp chat, besides hitting out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party Government at the Centre.
Led by Uday Bhanu Chib, President of J&K unit of Youth Congress, scores of senior members and activists gathered outside the party office at Shaheedi Chowk and raised slogans against Goswami.
“The leaked Whatsapp conversation between Republic TV promoter Arnab Goswami and the former CEO of the viewership ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) Partho Dasgupta must be investigated into thoroughly as it pertains to the national security which has been severely compromised,” Chib said, while speaking to the reporters.
Chib said that Arnab Goswami was a blot on the noble profession of journalism. “When the entire country stood shocked and in tears upon the martyrdom of 40 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force in Pulwama, this man was celebrating the jump in TRP for his channel.
He said that his ‘channel won like crazy’. This is not only painful but also amounts to being anti-national,” he said and demanded action against Goswami.
Chib also questioned how Goswami had prior knowledge about the Balakote air strike carried out by India on Pakistan, in retaliation to Pulwama attack.
“This is shameful that Goswami knew about the retaliatory strike by India on terror camps in Balakot in Pakistan days before the actual strike. This was a matter of national security which was severely compromised in this case,” he said, while hitting out at the Centre government for failing to ensure that no such sensitive information is doled out to anyone.
“What if those who tipped Arnab had shared it with some anti-national elements? What if Arnab’s whatsapp were hacked by enemy agencies? If spies or informers working for Pakistan had got any clue, the air strikes would have failed and the pilots would have been killed in the mission,” he said.
Ajaz Choudhary, Vice President JKPYC said “National security is not something which would compromise with any business,” he said, adding if the Central Government does not take any action against Arnab them Youth Congress will intensify protests in every district of J&K to get justice.
Ajaz Choudhary, Vice President JKPYC, Ricky Dalotra, Sahil Singh Langeh, Ranjeet Chopra- JKPYC General Secretaries, Latish Sharma and Brinder Partap- JKPYC secretaries, Vishal Chopra and Jahazaib Sirwal- JKPYC spokesperson, Rahul Tandon, DYC President (W), Happy Randhawa, AYC President, Baber Ali, VP DYC, Sunil Singh Manhas, AYC VP were among the senior members who participated in the protest.
