Following complaints from residents of Camp Road, Talab Tillo, and nearby areas, Arvind Gupta, MLA Jammu West, visited the Directorate of Agriculture complex to address health hazards allegedly caused by compost-making activities conducted on a large scale in the premises.
Local residents, represented by the Jain Welfare Society, had raised concerns about the pollution and potential health impacts stemming from the compost facility.
In response to these grievances, MLA Arvind Gupta was accompanied by MDO Raghubir Pal Koachar, Deputy Director (Central) Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Soil Chemist Neeraj Rajwal, and BJP Mandal Presidents Keshav Chopra and Atul Bakshi conducted an on-site inspection to assess the situation and evaluate the residents’ concerns.
During the visit, MLA Arvind Gupta instructed the officials concerned to shift the compost-making operations to a suitable location that adheres to pollution control norms, ensuring minimal impact on public health. Emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe environment, he requested that measures be put in place to prevent further health risks to the community.
The senior BJP leader emphasized that there would be “no compromise with the health and well-being of the people.
” He assured the residents that their safety is the utmost priority and committed to enforcing strict adherence to pollution control measures. “Every effort will be made to relocate or regulate such activities to ensure a healthy environment for our community,” he stated, reaffirming his dedication to addressing the concerns of the local populace.
Arvind also asked the officials of the Agriculture Department to explore alternative sites for the compost-making plant that would be away from residential areas. He instructed them to implement immediate measures to control any pollution emanating from the current facility until a suitable relocation is arranged. “Our aim is to safeguard public health while maintaining essential agricultural operations,” he added.
