Ayurvedic Tips for Staying Healthy
Drinking lot of water – According to Ayurvedic principles, gulping down water at once is not as beneficial as drinking it in sips. The frequency of drinking water and the way of drinking is more important. One should drink water in sips because it helps to take down more saliva to your stomach. Your saliva has digestive properties and more it reaches your stomach, the better for your health.
Healthy Eating Tips – You should eat neither too much nor too little. Your meal should consist one-third of solid foods, one-third with liquid such as juice, soup or water and the last one-third should be left empty to allow for movement of air and proper function of digestive juices. A simple way of deciding whether you are being optimum about eating is to stop before eating your fill. Never have your fill but always leave before.
Do not skip Breakfast – Make sure that you always have time for your breakfast. It is necessary for keeping you energetic for the rest of the day. If you have become habituated to skipping breakfasts, it could end up with a health problem. Moreover, if you want to have a heavy meal, make sure it is the breakfast and not the later ones.
Have a Light Dinner – Having a heavy dinner increase the chances of obesity, high cholesterol and other health issues. Moreover, having a stroll after dinner is an ideal way to make sure you digest what you have eaten. Sleep at least an hour after having dinner.Occasional Fasting – Fasting once a week can be very beneficial for your health. It helps to extract the undigested food circulating in your blood in the form of excess cholesterol back to your stomach where it can be processed again.
Avoid Unhealthy Habits – Needless to say Ayurveda places injunctions on bad habits such as smoking, drinking and taking addictive drugs. Their ill effects on health are well known.
Sleep Basics – In Ayurveda, early to sleep and early to rise is recommended. This is because, your body gets the best rejuvenation by sleeping after 10.30 PM at night and this would allow you to wake at dawn too. Level of ozone is highest in the morning which is sure to have good impact on your health.
Processed and frozen foods, foods loaded with synthetic preservatives are harder to digest due to the complex chemicals present in them. This basically means a part of the food will remain undigested and build up as toxins in your body. Also, these aren’t exactly fresh foods, therefore they don’t offer the complete nutrition the body needs. Instead, they will only leave you feeling more lethargic. Make an effort to eat freshly made hot food. Warmer food is easier to digest and re-energises you for the rest of the day. Lunch should be a calm but wholesome affair. Ayurveda says that to gain complete nutrition and fully digest your food, you must treat your meals like a feast. Sit in a comfortable place, do not focus on anything except the food in front of you, relish the flavours and the warmth, and do not rush through it. Lunch time might be a good time to take a break from your mobile and/or computer screen too.
