Baisakhi Mela 2025 Celebrated with Grand Enthusiasm at Jia Pota, Akhnoor

The historic Jia Pota Ghat in Akhnoor came alive with vibrant colors and cultural spirit as the Baisakhi Mela 2025 was celebrated with great fervor and participation. The event, organized by the Department of Tourism, witnessed a massive gathering of people from across the region.
The evening cultural programme was the highlight of the day, featuring enthralling Dogri and Punjabi dance and song performances, followed by a soulful Sandhya Aarti on the banks of the pious Chenab River.
Hon’ble MLA Akhnoor, Shri Mohan Lal Bhagat, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he congratulated the people on the occasion of Baisakhi and appreciated the efforts of the administration and tourism department for organizing such a culturally rich and spiritually uplifting event. “Baisakhi is a celebration of harvest, heritage, and harmony. It strengthens the bond between people and nature, and showcases our diverse traditions,” he said.
Prominent dignitaries present included SDM Akhnoor Mukhtar Ahmed, DDC Bhushan Bral, Tourist Officer Rajesh Raina, Ex-President MC Akhnoor Depesh Singh, Ex-Councillor Rakesh Malhotra, along with various Ex-Sarpanches and Panches.
The event proceedings were smoothly conducted by Rabia Khajuria and Mohan Singh Jamwal.
From early morning, devotees took holy dips in the Chenab River and offered prayers at the Jia Pota Mandir. Swami Parmeshwar Ji Maharaj blessed the public and delivered spiritual discourses. Various food and shopping stalls added to the festive charm of the mela.
The event was organized under the guidance of Director Tourism Vikas Gupta and Joint Director Aizaz Qaiser, with commendable support by Sub-Division Akhnoor Administration. The arrangements were well-managed, with SDRF, Police, and Fire Brigade personnel on high alert to ensure public safety.
