JAMMU, July 25:
PCC General Secretary Balwan Singh has asked the Centre to undo its decision of August 5, 2019, of reducing the state of Jammu and Kashmir to Union Territory.
While stressing the immediate need for the restoration of Statehood to J&K, Balwan Singh said that it was preposterous in the first place to reduce J&K’s status to UT. “ The way forward now from this frozen political state is to give back to J&K its statehood” and added that “ there cannot be and should not be any ifs and buts.”
Reminding the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah of their promise to revert the statehood to J&K, Balwan Singh said that the promise should be honoured in letter and spirit.
Balwan Singh was addressing a meeting of Congress workers here today in which the issue of the prestige of the state of J&K was discussed threadbare.
All the participants in the meeting drawn from Marh Assembly constituency agreed with Balwan Singh that the statehood alone could meet the aspirations of the people and restore confidence in the democracy.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were block presidents Saudagar Singh , Ashwani Sharma and Corporator Rachpal Bhardwaj , Ashok Bhagat, senior Congress leader and Jagdish Bhagat, Sarpanch.
Balwan Singh also highlighted the hardships being faced by the common people due to the daily rise in prices . “ Common people are suffering and it is very difficult for them to survive in these times of unprecedented price rise unleashed by the BJP government at the Centre.” Others who spoke in the meeting included , Vijay Kumar Shastri, Bansi Lal, Darshan Mohra, Darshan Mortan and Janak Raj The meeting reposed faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and PCC president G A Mir.
