“Cyber security- Against Women & Child” was discussed in a seminar jointly organized by Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh & Bar Association, Panchkula. Adv Jagpal Singh, President Dist. Bar Association graced the occasion as special guest. Dr. Shipra Gupta, Faculty Punjab University, Chandigarh was the keynote speaker. Adv Amit Singla, Ex President Dist. Bar Association, Adv Aman Dutt Sharma, General Secretary, Adv Nisha, Joint secretary was also present.
Shipra Gupta mentioned that an unfortunate number of women are becoming victims of cybercrimes. It is said crimes against women marked a steady rise since 2019. According to a recent study more women are known to use the Internet to enrich their relationships compared to men. Young women, those 18-24, experience certain severe types of harassment at disproportionately high levels: 26 percent of these young women have been stalked online, and 25% were the target of online sexual harassment.
She added that the rate of cybercrime against women started to increase at this time since most women were using social media sites and one or more online platforms for academic, professional, and entertainment purposes. She gave few basic tips including: Don’t share passwords., Don’t add people with locked profile in social media., Don’t leave your webcam connected, don’t meet online acquaintances alone, be careful about posting details about you, disable geotagging in your camera, update all operating systems on you devices, Know and understand the privacy policy etc.
