The Bengaluru summer meeting will commence on May 18 (Saturday) and conclude on August 9 (Friday). Racing will be conducted over 26 days and will mainly be held on Saturdays and Sundays expect during the last two weeks. Briefing the media on Thursday, BTC chairman Mr. N. Harimohan Naidu said the total prize money estimated to be paid during the meeting was approximately ?19.5 crore. The Kingfisher Ultra Derby Bangalore will be sponsored by M/s United Breweries for the 32nd straight year. The added money will be ?1.5 crore, inclusive of the club’s contribution of ?75 lakh and an equal contribution by the sponsor. With the club guaranteeing total stakes of ?2.5 crores, it will be one of the richest derby races in the country.
The added money for the Fillies Championship stakes and the Colts Championship will be ?25 lakh each.
The Shapoorji Pallonji Million, sponsored by M/s Pallonji Shapoorji, will have added money of ?15 lakh inclusive of the club’s contribution of ?7.5 lakh and the same amount by the sponsor.
The Tetrasoft Inc Bangalore St. Leger is sponsored by M/s Tetrasoft Inc and the added money will be ?12.5 lakh with equal contributions from the club and sponsor.
825 horses, including 98 from outstation, are stabled in the BTC and about 800 are expected to participate during the meeting as against 703 during the previous summer meeting.
