Circuna long is cultivated throughout the tropical regions
The rhizone of circuna longa is the part that is used in medicine/for medical purpose. It is a tall herb,about 60cm high with large and oblong leaves. Flower appear is the rainy season
THERAPEUTIC USES:
– Externally, it is used in the treatment of scabies,itches,enzema, boils,abscesses and eye diseases
-internally it is used for the treatment of asthma,cough,cold,fever,(specially forconvalesing mothers after child birth),obstinate skin diseases,urticaria,jaundice,constipation,and parasitic infections.it is often use as a food supplement and invariably addes to curry powder
METHOD OF PREPERATION AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION
-For external use, the rhizone of that plant is dried and ground in to a powder. A paste is prepared by grinding this powder with a little water. This termeric paste is applied externally and rubbed over the affected paste is applied externally and over the affected part of skin. For better result in skin diseases, neem leaves of equal quantity are added and ground with the paste.
If the skin is dry, then mustard oil is added to the paste before application. In case of eye discharge, one teaspoonful of turmeric powder is added to a cup of water mixed well and strained through a clean muslin cloth. This water is applied to the eyes with a dropper. Turmeric paste and powder are used internally. In view of it’s bitter taste, It is better if used with a small quantity of sugar, jaggery or honey. In the treatment of asthma and bronchitic, it is used along with honey and ginger juice. Adding a little long pepper paste on powder ( one forth the quantity) fortifies it’s anti-spasmodic and expectorant properties
– for Brochial asthma and chloric branchitis associated with cosinophillia, the turmeric powder is heater is a pan with a small quantity of cow’s milk, butter or ghee. The powder should become a little brown, but it should not be charred. The roasted powder is kept in an air-tight bottle and given to the patient
Dose
– The paste or powder of turmeric should be given in doses of one transpoonful (5gm) three times a day. The powder should be mixed with a warm milk or warm water.some sugar may be added to this and given to the patient three times a day.
– The roasted turmeric powder should be given to the patient in doses of one teaspoonful ( 5gm) three times a day with hot water or honey.
