A meeting of Ex-servicemen Cell of JKPCC was held here today at PCC HQ Shahidi Chowk Jammu, presided over by Commandant (Retired) Swarn Singh- Chairman. Former Minister and Vice President JKPCC Shri Raman Bhalla was the Chief Guest and Shri Vikram Mlahotra-President DCC Jammu Urban was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The meeting threadbare discussed the issues of ex-servicemen and the sufferings of families of serving soldiers and ex-servicemen.
The meeting decided to hold a provincial level convention of ex-servicemen to highlight their issues and raise their voice over various aspects of their problems in the next month. Speaking on the occasion Shri Raman Bhalla said that Ex-servicemen are most disciplined section of the society. They have served the nation and made sacrifices during service and also serving the society, even after retirement.
He explained about the role of the Congress party for the grant of One Rank One Pension (OROP) and blamed the BJP Govt. for implementing the same partially. He said that soldiers of Army and Para-Military forces work side- by -side, while defending the borders and asked them to raise their voice against the injustice and discrimination by the Govt.
Bhalla advocated for maximizing welfare of ex-Servicemen of the state. He lauded the dedication and the high commitment with which the Armed Forces are serving the Nation, facing varied adverse challenges and physical discomforts. He said that the State Government must take every required step to ensure the weal and welfare of the nearly 7.8 lakh persons who comprise serving and retired Servicemen and their families. Observing that the vast majority of the Service personnel retire at below 40 years age, he stressed the need to fully utilize the young force of ex- Servicemen who possess skills and expertise in varied fields, for productive activities in the State. For absorbing ex-Servicemen in civil sector, Bhalla urged the adoption of a broad based and flexible approach which may vary from organization to organization.
