Bhim Singh pays tributes to Student Martyrs’ of 1966

Prof. Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party laid wreaths on the memorial Sathal of Student Martyrs who were shot dead by the Police in the play ground of GGM Science College, Jammu on 17th October, 1966 and on 18th October, 1966 at City Chowk here, when a student procession was going on in the streets demanding separate Jammu University, Medical, Engineering, Ayurvedic and Law College.
Three Students were martyred namely Brijmohan Sharma, Subash Chander, Gulshan Honda in College premises and S. Gurcharan Singh killed at point blank at City Chowk by the then SSP Jammu. The Student movement was led by then Chief Organizer of J&K Student Congress Bhim Singh, P.K Ganju then General Secretary SPM Rajput College of Commerce and others.
Thakur Virender Singh, State President NPSU asked youth & students to unite and fight against injustice and discrimination matted out to Jammu masses more so un-employed youth who are denied their due in the govt. employment and development programmes.
On this occasion JKNPP senior leaders P.K Ganju, Sr. State Vice President, Anita Thakur, General Secretary, Jagdev Singh, Shanker Singh Chib, State Secretaries, Naresh Chib, Ravinder Jamwal, Neeraj Gupta, Asha Rani, Nirmal Kishore, Shakti Singh, Mithu Rajput and others remembered the martyrs whose martyrdom resulted in fulfillment of all demands for which they were killed by the Police.
On the intervention of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister Inquiry Commission was held which pronounced all guilty in the entire police hierarchy and had banned their promotion.
This movement initiated awakening among the youth of Jammu Pradesh which had remained discriminated and denied of all educational, economic and political share in the state development.
While addressing youth- students participants Prof. Bhim Singh asked them to continue peaceful battle for the genuine demands of new generation to ensure delivery of justice at all levels. He also expressed to all past student leaders who have been struggling for justice, equity and brotherhood.
