NEW DELHI, JUNE 15,
As Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s sit-in protest along with his cabinet colleagues at the Lieutinent Governor’s residence enters the fifth day, Congress has criticised both Centre and Delhi government.
As a counter-protest, the BJP MLAs and party MP Parvesh Verma are stationed outside the Chief Minister’s office in the Delhi Secretariat for the third day accusing the Chief Minister and ministers of striking work.
“Both the ruling parties in Delhi should stop this dharna politics,” former Union Minister Ajay Maken said during a press conference, which was also attended by former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Recalling her tenure as the chief minister, Ms. Dikshit said the relationship between the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary “should be one of coordination.”
Hitting out at the AAP, Ms. Dikshit said, “They must understand that Delhi is a union territory and it is not like Uttar Pradesh or Haryana. The LG can’t change the Constitution. Parliament can do it. So Mr, Kejriwal should go and meet them[Union government].”
On a question if the situation is to do with different parties ruling the Capital and Centre, Ms. Dikshit said her government privatised power companies and worked towards improving water suplly even though the NDA was in power at the Centre. “When we came to power Madam Sheila didn’t change any top bureaucrats for one year,” recalled Mr. Maken adding that the procedure hasn’t changed in the recent times.
On whether the Congress supports President Rule in Delhi, Mr. Maken said: “We don’t support an elected govt to be dismissed this way. But the State govt has a responsibility to perform.”
