Transparency and accountability are the two cornerstones of any people-centric government and the BJP Government at the Centre is committed to ensure these two virtues of governance across the length and breadth of the country including J&K.
This was stated by senior BJP leader and former MLA Bharat Bhushan Bodhi, who is presently Chairman DDC Jammu District. He was chairing the maiden Gram Sabha meeting here at Village Seri Panditaan in Block Bhalwal.
Besides Sarpanch Naseeb Singh and all Panchs,BDO Bhalwal, concerned Gram Sabha Secretary and Block Level officers and officials of various departments were also present in the meeting.
Laying emphasis on bringing transparency and accountability into system of governance, he said that the same will not only bring people closer to the government but also make them equal and integral part of the decision making process.
He said that unlike earlier governments, BJP Government at the Centre has evolved foolproof mechanisms to keep corruption at bay and people have been empowered to decide what is right and what is not. He said under various initiatives of PM Narendra Modi led BJP government, the officials of different departments have been asked to reach out to people at their doorsteps irrespective of the fact that whether they belong to urban hamlets or the far flung rural pockets like in the case of series of Back To Village programme. “Isn’t it remarkable that officials are at the disposal of public? This is the true essence of democracy”, he maintained adding that this meeting also holds great significance as far as participation of people in governance is concerned. “Public support in carrying out development works is vital as it gauges the work at the initial level and also roots out scope of any kind of hanky-panky or delinquency” he said.
Later, the meeting unanimously decided that no work will be executed without getting nod from the Gram Sabha and it was also resolved that the aforesaid Sabha shall act as the final authority with regard to development projects being carried out in its jurisdiction.
The meeting also discussed various burning issues of the area which are required to be taken up on priority. Before departing, the DDC Chairman made it clear that there is no dearth of funds and the works with regard to development of the area will soon be taken up keeping in mind the fact the there is zero tolerance against corruption in the present set up.
