Strongly rebuking the attempts being made by both BJP and Congress for polarizing the voters for political gains during the Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister appealed the people of erstwhile Doda district to expose and oppose the nefarious designs of such divisive forces. We have an age old history of communal harmony and brotherhood which can’t be allowed to be subverted by reckless politicians for promoting their narrow parochial political interests, said Singh.
He was addressing a series of public meetings at Gandhri, Kabi, Tanger, Ramban city and Chanderkot segments of district Ramban in Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency.
Condemning the recent terror attack at a health centre in Kishtwar which killed a renowned social worker and his PSO, Mr. Singh said it was a second gruesome attack in the past six months following the killing of Parihar brothers which rocked the entire Chenab belt in Jammu region. He cautioned both BJP and Congress to refrain from fishing in the troubled waters as the people would no more tolerate their attempts of creating communal polarization for vote bank politics. “Don’t you dare exploit the sentiments of the people on communal lines. Stop resorting to such gimmicks during the elections. Vote bank politics has caused immense damage to our social fabric, our values, our traditions and our entity as a secular region. People were closing observing the role played by the traditional parties and would stand by those who value national interest above their narrow political interests”, said Mr. Singh. He added that apprehensions were rife among the people that the killing of the said worker during the elections was politically motivated to serve vested interests.
Mr. Singh demanded high level probe into the killing which had disturbed the peace and tranquillity of Kishtwar and the adjacent districts.
Dismayed over snapping of internet services in the entire erstwhile Doda district, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh regretted that instead of restoring normalcy in the area, the arbitrary decision of the government had made the situation worse.
“The policy of suppressing the communication links during the elections or otherwise is against the essence of democracy. It has only created the atmosphere of fear and forced the people to live in darkness”, Harsh said. Taking a jibe at BJP and Congress, he said these parties continued to get peoples’ mandate for the last around 70 years one after the other but failed on each occasion to live up to the expectations of their electorates with their dismal performance in the Parliament. The lack of development in the entire constituency and the remote areas in particular bore the testimony of the incompetency and inefficiency of their MPs. Since there was no virtual impact of the work on the ground, these parties had now resorted to create communal hatred among the people to run their political shops, lamented Harsh.
Asserting that Panthers Party was the lone crusader for cause of Jammu region, he said nothing could be expected from those who have been repeatedly tried and tested. “BJP and Congress had cheated their electorates earlier and they would do the same again. They failed to adequately safe-guard our pluralistic ethos in the testing times thereby shaking the faith of the people in all the traditional parties”, Harsh maintained.
He appealed the people and the youth in particular to carry forward the age old legacy of mutual accommodation and goodwill in the ultimate interests of a stronger and powerful Jammu region.
