JAMMU, Feb 7:
District Congress Committee for Jammu Rural today held a peaceful protest demonstration in solidarity with the farmers protesting at the borders of the national capital for the repeal of three farm laws.
Several workers of the Congress led by Hari Singh Chib, President DCC Jammu Rural took out a protest rally on Jammu-Akhoor road. Talking to reporters, Hari Singh Chib said that Congress stands firmly behind the tens of thousands of farmers, who have been protesting at the outskirts of New Delhi for the past over 70 days, even as the Centre government has adopted an obstinate stance. “Is this government blind, deaf and dumb? Can it not see, hear or speak on what has been the greatest movement in the history of independent India? The farmers of my country have been on the roads for so many days yet the government is not moved which shows its insensitivities towards the public demands,” Chib blasted the Narendra Modi-led government in the Centre.
“The Congress party stands firmly in support of these tens of thousands of farmers. This demonstration is in solidarity with them, to tell them that we will stand with them till the farm laws are repealed,” said Chib.
Speaking on occasion, Kuldeep Kumar, Chairman BDC Bhalwal said, “The government must see the plight of lakhs of Annadatas who are on the streets in the biting cold for the last 74 days. The Centre government must leave behind its stubborn stance and repeal the farms at the earliest,” he said. Rajinder Kumar, contested candidate DDC Marh castigated the BJP government, saying that the hollow policies of the BJP government have made the common man suffer the most in the past 6 years.
“Everyone from Kashmir to Kanyakumari is suffering severely due to the misgovernance of the current dispensation. Even farmers in Jammu are not unaffected and are facing severe problems due to hollow policies of the centre. The benefits of centrally-sponsored schemes like Kissan Bima Yojana etc are not reaching to farmers at grass root levels while the government is beating its own chest,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, youth president Sunny Jatt said that the hollow claims of BJP have been exposed and there is no development to be seen on the ground in the past 6 years. Among those who participated in the demonstration included Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, candidate DDC Akhnoor, Sarpanch Rajinder Singh Jamwal, Rana Partap Singh, Youth president Raipur Domana, Thoru Ram, Baber Ali, Dev Raj, Arun Mehta, Balkar Singh, Tarun Vaid, Virender Mehta, Sat Chib, Kulbushan Singh, Karanjot Singh, Pardeep Salatia, Vishal Kesar, Shubam Sharma, Siddharth Sharma, Rajat Sharma, Ajay Lakhotra, Vikas Choudhary, and others.
