NEW DELHI, JUNE 11
Shortly after being attacked by Congress party chief Rahul Gandhi for driving a wedge in the OBC community, the BJP on Monday accused Congress of ignoring the plight of the community.
“The Congress party, even after ruling the country for decades, paid no heed to the plight of the OBC community. Today, Rahul Gandhi is expressing his love for them,” said Minister of state for rural development, Ram Kripal Yadav.
Earlier today, the Congress chief had reached out to the OBC community at the ‘OBC Sammelan’ in the national capital. At the event, the Congress chief had accused the BJP and RSS of driving a wedge in the OBC community.
“RSS is a force working to divide the people. It wants to drive a wedge in the OBC community,” Rahul had said.
Yadav, who was addressing a joint press conference with minister of human resource and development Prakash Javdekar, also accused the Congress party of “using” the OBC community as a vote bank.
“Congress has always misguided the OBC community for its vote bank, but has not done anything to uplift them,” Yadav added.
The BJP leader also raised the question of Constitutional status for the OBCs.
“If Rahul Gandhi actually favours the OBC community, then he should answer if he is in favour of granting Constitutional status to the OBC community,” he said.
Javdekar, on the other hand, slammed the Congress for the failure of its economic policies when it had led the UPA alliance at the Centre.
“Congress party has maintained its record – ‘low development index, high inflation’. However, Modi government has reversed the trend – ‘Development index has increased and inflation has reduced,” he said.
The HRD minister also lashed out former finance minister P Chidambaram’s criticism of the economy by saying that India, today, has emerged as the fastest growing economy in the world.
