Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has slammed the BJP leaders for shedding crocodile tears over the rehabilitation of 29 shopkeepers in the Assembly. He accused the saffron party of playing politics over the issue, despite having had ample opportunity to resolve it when they were in power. Addressing a gathering of youth at Village Sai in Suchetgarh, Tony stated that the BJP had made tall promises to the same shopkeepers before elections, assuring them of rehabilitation. However, after securing a strong mandate, the party conveniently abandoned them and is now shifting the blame to the present government.
“When BJP had absolute power, they could have resolved this issue with ease. But they chose to neglect it. Now, since power is divided between two pillars in J&K, no concrete decision is being taken. The BJP is merely highlighting the issue to create an uproar and mislead the people, rather than genuinely working towards a solution,” he said.
Tony further compared this to other critical issues such as the plight of daily wagers, where financial constraints are being cited as an excuse, making it difficult for the present government to take major financial decisions.
Highlighting BJP’s history of broken promises, Tony said “Before elections, BJP lured people with false assurances like restoration of statehood to J&K, providing Rs 2500 per month to every woman in Delhi, providing of LPG cylinders at Rs 400 in Rajasthan, and several other hoaxes. Now, the people are angry, and BJP must face their wrath.”
He also took a jibe at BJP’s criminal silence over the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood, accusing them of being complicit in its removal. He appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to formulate a clear rehabilitation policy to safeguard the livelihoods of the affected shopkeepers.
“Congress has always stood for the people. We strongly support the rehabilitation of shopkeepers and appeal to the CM to take necessary action at the earliest,” he affirmed.
Earlier, the Congress leader has inspected ongoing works in Suchetgarh, where he reiterated Congress’ commitment to the welfare of the people.
