The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked four persons, including the owners of a Delhi-based consultancy agency, for allegedly attempting to secure seats for their candidates in medical colleges through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Those named as accused are Ashwani and Arti Tomar of Akriti Education, Mohit Kumar of Khurja in Uttar Pradesh and Manoj Sikka of Punjab’s Ludhiana, besides unknown prospective candidates and their parents. According to the CBSE, Kumar had been operating as a tout and would lure students and their parents on the promise of helping them clear NEET and secure seats in government and private medical/dental colleges across India. Kumar operated allegedly in connivance with the Tomars who run an agency at Delhi’s West Patel Nagar for providing consultancy to the prospective candidates appearing in NEET.
Manoj Sikka, who has a NEET consultancy agency in Ludhiana, was also in touch with Kumar.
Based on the prime facie evidence that the accused persons were attempting to help their candidates clear the test for enrolment in medical and dental colleges using illegal means, the CBSE lodged the complaint.
