New Delhi, Nov 09 :
The ousted CBI chief has denied all the charges made against him by his deputy Rakesh Asthana
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Friday examined the ousted Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief Alok Kumar Verma, as part of the inquiry into charges and counter charges between him and his deputy Rakesh Asthana.
Mr. Verma got his statement recorded before the Commission, which is conducting the inquiry under the supervision of retired Justice A.K. Patnaik, as directed by the Supreme Court.
It is learnt that Mr. Asthana may also appear before the CVC later in the day.
Mr. Verma, who had also deposed before the vigilance authority on Thursday, has denied all the charges made against him by Mr. Asthana through a complaint lodged on August 24 .
The Commission had earlier examined Hyderabad-based businessman Sathish Sana, on whose complaint the agency registered a case of alleged extortion and corruption last month against Mr. Asthana and others.
In its order dated October 23, recommending that Mr. Verma be divested of his powers, the Commission had charged him with not cooperating in the inquiry against him as several files had not been furnished despite reminders. Mr. Asthana was also stripped of his powers pending inquiry.
