NEW DELHI, MAY 30,
The CBI is conducting searches on the premises of Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain and others after registering a case to probe the hiring of a creative team in the Public Works Department (PWD).
In all, 24 architects were hired by the PWD as part of the creative team for various projects, including Mohalla clinics. A detective agency was involved in the process and tender conditions were allegedly tweaked for the hiring.
Mr. Jain on Wednesday tweeted saying his house had been raided by the CBI and all the architects were forced to leave.Quoting the PWD Minister’s tweet, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wondered “What does PM Modi want?” The probe is based on a reference from the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor seeking investigation into a range of corruption allegations. Mr. Jain is already under the scanner of probe agencies for alleged use of shell companies to launder funds running into crores of rupees. In August 2017, a disproportionate assets case was registered by the CBI and investigation was also taken up by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The FIR names Mr. Jain and the then PWD Engineer-in-Chief, S.K. Srivastava, as accused, besides others.
