COIMBATORE, JAN 18,
Chennai City FC has brought down giants such as East Bengal and Mohun Bagan this season. Aizawl FC can be an easy prey but the team does not wish to take it lightly when it meets them again in the Hero I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.
“If we are going to be complacent it can really be dangerous. The team has a new coach and he may want to prove something. So, we must put our feet on the ground and play the way we had done so far,” said Akbar Nawas, the CCFC coach.
He said Friday’s game is as important as any other played so far. “We will have to forget about the the victory against East Bengal a couple of days ago. If we think about the win then complacency will set in.”
Chennai had beaten Aizawl 2-1 in its earlier outing. But the visitor has a new coach in Standly Rosario. He has trained the North Eastern boys before and obviously has an understanding or two with the current set-up.
“I appreciate the way Chennai City has played right through. The coach has brought the best out of his boys. So, it’s going to be a big challenge but I believe we can do something special tomorrow,” said Standly.
“The local boys and the foreigners are jelling pretty well. They are capable of troubling the opposition on their given day because they are talented and have showed great fighting spirit,” he added.
He said nothing is impossible as long as you believe.
“Even the best can crumble under pressure and I am looking forward to take something positive from this match. And possibly climb up the points table from here.”
Will the boys deliver for the coach this time around? Tomorrow will tell.
