Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Simrandeep Singh dedicated exclusive In-Hostel Kushti facility to the young residents of Disha Chhatravaas, Kadmal in holy town of Katra in district Reasi.
The CEO was so impressed with the joint venture of Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association, Kreeda Bharti J&K and Sewa Bharti, management of Disha Chhatravaas, that he assured a helping hand in improving the sports facilities as well as educational set-up for the hostel inhabitant under social reach out programme.
Earlier, Simrandeep Singh declared the Kushti facility (mud akhara) open amidst chanting of vedic mantras and performing of puja at the Akhara site. He also witnessed two inaugural bouts that took place among young inhabitants of the hostel.
Guest of honour, chief spokesperson RSS J&K, Prant Karyaba, Parshotam Dadichi threw light on the important historic aspects of sports and Westernization of the traditional Indian sports and events. He told the gathering that Akharas (Kushti facility) help to inculcate the spirit of love for mother land.
State organizing secretary of the Sewa Bharti, Sunil Gorkha presented a detailed report of the activities of the organisation targeting the poor and deserving section of the society irrespective of caste and creed. Secretary J&K Kreeda Bharti, Rajesh Chander Sharma presented a detailed report of activities of the organization.
President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and man behind the initiative, Shiv Kumar Sharma explained in length the story of wrestling in Katra that made a mild beginning in 1983 with a small dangal and took the shape of an International event (maha dangal) involving foreign wrestlers. He stressed the need for involving local sports promoters and enthusiasts in the decision making sports body of SMVDSB. He also urged the CEO of the Board for sports equipments and setting up a smart class for the Disha Chhatravaas Katra.
The event also marked felicitation of newly elected Councillors of Katra Municipal Committee and Members of Press Club Katra by the CEO on behalf of Senior Citizens Forum Katra (Regd.) and the Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association.
The organizers of the 14th “Mission-Dosti” International Indian Style Khusti Maha Dangal, Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association also felicitated the sponsor organizations and individuals who helped in the successful conduct of the mega event. Prominent among these organizers were SMVDSB, J&K Tourism Department Bank, HDFC Bank, NHPC Ltd., J&K Police, J&K State Sports Council, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), CRPF 6th BN Katra, Life Insurance Corpation, Jamkash Vehiclades Pvt Limited, Hotel Shanker Palace and District Administration.
Welcome address was presented by general secretary of Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association Raj Kumar Padha while vote of thanks presented by vice-president Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Katra (Regd.) Sukhdev Singh. Function was compared by Ajay Singh.
Prominent persons present on the occasion included Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Sohan Singh (Sonu), Ex. Sarpanch Sham Singh, Retd. S.P Prithvi Raj Sharma, Rakesh Wazir, Sham Lal Kesar, Retd. Tehsildar Bansi Lal Tidyal, social activist and wrestling promoter Ram Paul Sharma, Ramink Nowadha, Mubarik Singh, Ashwani Kartoch, Dr Sagathan Matri Bhartiya Shiksha Samiti, Pardeep Kumar, Commandant CRPF 6th Bn, Jatinder Kumar Gupta, ASP Katra Naresh Singh, Chief Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council, Hazi Abdul Qyoom, Zonal Head J&K Bank Udhampur, Anand Pal Singh and vice-president HDFC Bank Jammu, Sachin Mahajan were guests of honour.
