JAMMU, Dec 14:
Both title holders Kerela and last year’s finalist, Assam could not make it to the all important game after underdogs, Chandigarh and Bihar qualified for the final of the ongoing 64th National School Games Under-17 Boys’ Football Tournament hosted by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at different venues here today.
Now, Chandigarh shall take on Bihar for the title clash slated for tomorrow afternoon, followed by the valedictory function at BSF Stadium, here at 3 pm.
Last year’s silver medallist, Haryana could not qualify for the knock-out round of pre-quarterfinals while Kerela lost in the semifinals today. Important to mention here that both Chandigarh and Bihar were not figured among last eight teams in the 63rd edition of the School Games.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Chandigarh blanked Assam 3-0 while Bihar outplayed Kerela 2-0 via tie-breaker.
In the quarterfinals, decided during the day, Assam defeated Meghalaya 5-4 via tie-breaker while Chandigarh made it a one-sided affair against West Bengal 4-0. Bihar outplayed Madhya Pradesh 1-0 and Kerela trounced Maharashtra 1-0.
One of the semifinals, between Kerela and Bihar played at SMVDSB Sports Stadium, Katra.
The important match witnessed besides others by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMVDSB, Simranjeet Singh, who was special guest. He interacted with the teams before start of the game. The CEO was accompanied by Director Sports SMVDSB, Ashok Kumar and district youth services and sports officer Jammu, Chanchal Kour.
