World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June 2024, in Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPPL) with great fervour and gaiety. The celebration began with the address of Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director, CVPPPL, on the theme of World Environment Day- “Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience”.
Mukhiya highlighted the problem of land degradation and desertification and share his insights to combat desertification and restore the land. Emphasizing that Climate change is the driver of desertification, he urged everyone to reduce carbon footprint by bringing behavioural changes in everyday lives like sharing carpool, setting room AC temperature not below 24oC, conserving water etc.
On this occasion, mass awareness programme was conducted for all the employees by showing the consequences of desertification and ways to prevent it. Awareness was also raised on the role of individual in combating desertification and restoring land.
About 200 Saplings of various fruit bearing trees were also distributed among staff to mark the occasion.
