A three days training programme on Role of Urban Local Bodies in Community Based Disaster Management w.e.f. 22nd July, 2019 to 24th ‘July, 2019 was organized by J&K IMPA&RD under the dynamic leadership of Sh. Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, IAS, Director General, J&K IMPA&RD.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Reva Sharma, Director Trainings, J&K IMPA&RD, Jammu who emphasized on Role of Urban Local Bodies in Community Based Disaster Management and focused on need for Preparedness and Mitigation measures approaches to be taken as pre and post disaster management. She also underscored the need for preparation of Ward Disaster Management Plan and Quick Response teams for each Municipal Ward. The programme was attended by Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, JMC, Adv. Purnima Sharma, Councillors and Committee members from Jammu Municipal Corporation & Urban Local Bodies. The Course Director Dr. Neena Bhalla welcomed all the participants and outlined the various objectives of the training programme The main focus of the programme was on implementation of City Disaster Management Act-2005 and Disaster Management Plan-2016 and the role of Urban Local Bodies in disaster risk mitigation thereof. During the programme various sessions were held on City Disaster Management Plan by Dr. Tahir Firdous, KAS, ADC, Jammu, Community Based Disaster Risk Management by Mr. Vikash Sharma, Nodal Officer (Social), ERA, Jammu & Role of Community in Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation by Mr. Alok Nanda, Expert Disaster Management, Jammu. Practical Demonstrations on Disaster Management were held by the team of Civil Defence & SDRF, Jammu headed by Deputy Controller, Civil Defence Ms. Naseem Akhtar and Inspector Sh. Ankeshwar. Overall, the participants were equipped with the updation of knowledge, skills and right attitude to be exhibited at the time of disaster. At the end Dr. Neena Bhal1a, Course Coordinator presented vote of thanks.
