JAMMU, June 03:
Mrityunjay Sharma, an ace speed climber of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), has been selected by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, the apex body for mountaineering and sport climbing in the country, to represent the country in three World Cup competitions to be held in Switzerland and France.
While, the World Cup at Villars, Switzerland is scheduled to be held from July four to July six, the World Cup competitions at Chamonix and Briancon in France shall be organized from July 11 to July 13 and July 19 to July 20, respectively.
Mrityunjay, 18 , is an accomplished speed climber who at the age of 16 years was the youngest participant in the World Cup held at Navi Mumbai in June, 2017. He had secured a bonus point in the global competition.
However, last year he remained totally inactive and did not participate in any competition due to his class 12th examinations. But this year, Mrityunjay made a good come back by clocking 7.99 seconds in the final round of Speed competition of the 3rd IMF All India Sport Climbing competition which facilitated his selection for the international competition.
“It was an excellent performance considering the fact that the state Government has neither provided any climbing infrastructure nor any climbing equipment to the Mountaineering Association of J&K,” general secretary of the MAJK, Ram Khajuria told SAN.
Meanwhile, members of MAJK congratulated Mrityunjay for his selection for three World cup competitions and wished him success in the global events.
