Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta Wednesday spelled out his plans to make the winter capital a ‘smart city’ through a multi-sectoral treatment. He said the ailing town needed a multi-pronged approach with regard to anti-encroachment movement,
beautification, better sanitation and completion of development projects. This was stated by him while addressing a press conference in Jammu today. Addressing media persons, Mayor said that “We will make Jammu city which is ailing in several sectors, a healthy city for
the people. Apart from a healthy city, our aim and focus will also be on converting it into a clean and green city. Mayor informed that new Auto has been provided to each ward to lift the garbage from wards. He asked the dairy owners within JMC limits for installation of Biogas unit in their dairy units.He appealed them not to let the animals stray on roads/public lanes.He urged the local public not to defecate in open and contact JMC for IHHL and CT/PT for construction. He informed that JMC is providing Rs 17500 for construction of toilets
and if anyone want to make it at its own in better way,JMC will directly deposit said amount in their account.
Mayor further said that from now onwards JMC Auto will visit every temple to gather offered flowers and other worship items towards dumping yard where it will be converted into manure to use it for cultivation of new plants and flowers .He appealed Pujaris of temples
to contact with JMC for lifting of flowers from temples for their compositing. He stressed on awareness related to solid waste management that is people should be aware of dry and wet waste and type of bins to be used for collection. He said in this regard JMC is organizing awareness programmes in Schools and Colleges to create more awareness to make Jammu clean and green.
Talking about his strategy to improve sanitation facilities in the winter capital, the BJP leader said the focus will be on construction of more toilets, better drainage setup and garbage disposal mechanisms as well as ensuring the city is totally polythene-free.Flagging shortage of staff like sweepers as a “major obstacle”, Gupta added he will take up the issue with authorities concerned and ensure that all vacant posts were filled up.Envisioning a clean and green Jammu, he proposed many novel ideas for development of Jammu City to restore its
pristine glory and grandeur.
“My focus will not only be limited to clean and green Jammu but the overall development of the city and take every possible step to make Jammu Smart City Project a reality. According top priority to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Mission of Swacch Bharat and for proper
solid waste management in the city, Gupta said a new Sewerage Project will be taken up at Bawe and all shortcomings will be overcome faced in proper disposal of solid waste in the city. Besides for total beautification of the city, Gupta said his another focus is on installation of street lights everywhere in the City so that there will be no difference between day and night and in this regard already 8000 street lights have already been installed. He praised all 75 corporators for their efforts in development and beautification of the city and strongly maintained that there will be no discrimination and disparity with any corporator. Mayor further said that efforts are on in improving basic infrastructure in the newly included wards and areas in JMC so that they will not lag behind other wards in development. In this regard he said that 24 safai karamcharies for each ward have been deputed in newly added wards and those which have been upgraded will get 12 each safaikaramcharisto ensure healthy environment in every ward.
