Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh emphasized that restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is crucial for tackling the region’s pressing issues such as unemployment, farmers’ grievances, the regularization of daily wagers, and ensuring the availability of basic amenities to every citizen. Speaking during a program held in the RS Pura-South constituency of Jammu, the senior Congress leader reiterated that the return of statehood is fundamental right of J&K people to achieve holistic development and address the growing challenges faced by the people of J&K.
Tony expressed his disappointment over the BJP’s hollow promises, stating, “The BJP government has continuously ignored the aspirations of the people of J&K, failing to restore the statehood they unjustly took away. Without statehood, how can we expect solutions to the growing unemployment crisis, farmers’ issues, or the regularization of thousands of daily wagers who have been working tirelessly for years without stability?” He stressed that the BJP’s indifference to the region’s needs has left people struggling for basic rights and services.
Furthermore, Tony reaffirmed Congress’ commitment to alleviating the burdens faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The Congress Party promises to bring the biggest relief to the people, starting with putting an end to the overbilling of power tariffs, which has caused immense distress to residents across the region,” he added.
He assured that Congress is focused on creating a conducive environment for business, agriculture, and industrial growth, which will result in employment generation and long-term sustainable development. The senior Congress leader urged the public to rally behind the demand for the restoration of statehood and stressed that without this, achieving economic stability and development will remain a distant dream. He urged the public to rally behind the Congress in the ensuing Assembly polls in its ongoing struggle for justice and empowerment, promising that under Congress’ leadership, the people of J&K will see a brighter and more prosperous future.
