While talking to media persons, here today, the president of the organization said that consumer protection organisaton Jammu had been instrumental in moving and getting approved a resolution in State consumer council in the year 2005 to celebrate the state consumer day in educational institutions to educate the students about the consumer rights in order to enlarge the spectrum and enlightenment of consumerism in wider prospects.
Our state enacted with amendment a consumer protection Act in the year 1987, on the lines of National Consumer protection Act 1986 and subsequently implemented in the year 1988 in our state. Consumer protection act is one of the best legislation consecrated for boosting morale of consumer of goods and hirer of services, provided it is purchased or availed on making payment with a view to curb the vices of unfair trade practices, president added. Benefits of the Act couldn’t percolate to towns and villages etc. as only two divisional forums are functional at Jammu & Srinagar centres. Although the district for as have been constituted but with no physical shape to provide relief to the aggrieved consumers. The presidenty of the organization further stated that the Act is that an aggrieved consumer can file a complaint to the forum on a plain paper and doesn’t require to have the services of a lawyer. But it’s matter of great concern that these consumer for as are following the footsteps of other civil courts and proving to be a costly affair to the aggrieved consumers and jolting the efforts of Consumer protection act, he added.
