“With UP State having been apparently taken over by criminals and witnessing unprecedented law and order problem, it was high time that it was converted into 3-4 Union Territories in terms of the bench marks laid down by the BJP led govt. at the Centre.” This was stated by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and former Minister. He said that with Uttar Pradesh experiencing massive criminal violence, it would be sheer imprudence to underestimate the potential monstrousness of raging crimes. He was addressing a press conference here in Jammu today. “With ever increasing episodes of rapes, murders, kidnappings, etc., the law and order seemed to have invariably collapsed in UP necessitating the indulgence of the Central govt. Not only the Hathras episode of rape and murder but identical cases which occurred in Balrampur, Azamgarh, Buland Sheher, Lakshmipur and Kheri in the last few weeks, had posed the severest threat to the security of the daughters of nation who felt ashamed by the ever increasing crimes against women.
The unmitigated wild fury in UP refusing to die down had made the state extremely vulnerable to death and annihilation and as such necessitated firm measures in the interests of nation as well as the safety and security of its people”, observed Singh. He said that while J&K was converted into UT on mere apprehensions of breach of peace post Art 370 abrogation, the states like UP were actually experiencing lawlessness and massive violent upheaval which could be disastrous for the national unity. He said UP could be easily divided into three or four Union Territories with its law and order entrusted to Union Home Ministry under the charge of revered Amit Shah Ji.
Strongly condemning the Hathras episode wherein the mortal remains of the victim were consigned to flames by the local administration at the dead of night, Mr. Singh said that it did not have any other parallel in the history of crime. He regretted that the Centre had failed to act against UP govt. despite recurring episodes of gang rapes, murders, and other heinous offences which had virtually threatened the socio-politico system and created fear psychosis all across the State especially among females. Urging upon the intelligentsia and civil society to raise its voice against ever growing crime especially against women, Mr. Singh said that their silence would also be equated with crime by posterity if they failed to speak.
