NEW DELHI, JUNE 30,
Heavy deployment of police force at all arterial junctions of Anantapur town on Friday has led to tension on the second consecutive day, following a clash between the cadres of the TDP and BJP when the former had allegedly tried to corner BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana at the R&B guest house on Thursday.
Armed police personnel were posted at vulnerable junctions since Friday afternoon, thus preventing the proposed protest rally of the Communist Party of India (CPI) against Mr. Lakshminarayana, demanding his arrest for allegedly engineering an attack on the party cadres.
On Thursday, the cadres of the TDP’s student wing – Telugu Nadu Students Federation – had stormed the R&B guest house and made a bid to enter a suite occupied by Mr. Lakshminarayana.
The BJP cadres present in large numbers had retaliated and chased away the TDP cadres.
After a while, the CPI cadres too were allegedly attacked by the BJP activists when the former entered the guest house to confront the BJP State chief over issues pertaining to the backwardness of the Rayalaseema region.
Ban orders
In this background, the district police authorities, reportedly after getting leads that the TDP cadres were planning to storm the BJP district office, had arranged heavy security in the area. About 100 armed police personnel led by six circle inspectors and 10 sub-inspectors, cordoned off the BJP office, while Section 144 has been promulgated in the surroundings.
